So recently we reported about the changes to the Google search results page (SERP), which included the “Search+ your world” concept, and we were wondering… so what does it mean? The quick answer… nothing yet. But this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take it as an upcoming trend, something to watch, or something to get involved with.
What it should do is show you one thing about the web. DON’T PUT ALL OF YOUR EGGS IN 1 Basket. Basically any new comer has the ability to enter the market. It wasn’t long ago (like less then a few months) when everyone stated that Google+ wouldn’t take off, and it would fail. And look what we are talking about now.
It is also a good opportunity to get back to basics. Use this checklist before jumping on the bandwagon:
- SEO your site for the basics:
- Tags
- Titles
- Alt images
- Link Anchors
- Include Social links
- Put share buttons on the page
- Clear “Like Us” links to your social outlets
- Keep it up to date using cross posting
- Learn, watch, and steal! (no not literally)
- Look at what you like about your competition, and imitate it (but better)
- “We have always been shameless about stealing great ideas.” ~ Steve Jobs
- Regroup – Replan – Rebuild
- Look for your long-tail keywords
- what you want to be found for
- Google Analytics
- Determine what to do to get higher for the above
- Replan how you will get there
- Rebuild the site (or your campaign) to get you there
It is now obvious that you aren’t going to get away without getting on the Google+ channel (like we are already), Facebook, or Twitter. But it is just another basket to spread the eggs into. However, this one seems to be bringing a little added bonus to your search rankings
